Your brand is more than your logo.

START WITH YOUR BRAND

It is the name, colors, personality, style, and feeling that people begin to associate with your business.

The good news? You don’t need to be a designer or marketing expert to build one.

Let’s build yours.

01 — YOUR BUSINESS NAME

Your business name is one of the first things customers will see.

If you already have one, great. If not, start by thinking about the type of business you want to create.

A good name should be:

Easy to Remember
Avoid names that are unnecessarily long or difficult to spell.

Easy to Say
If someone hears your business name once, they should be able to repeat it.

Flexible Enough to Grow
Think carefully before choosing a name that limits you to one specific product.

For example:

More limiting:
Maria’s Necklace Shop

More flexible:
Luna & Co.

Luna & Co. could eventually sell necklaces, bracelets, accessories, gifts and much more.

BEFORE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH A NAME…

Check whether the name is already being used.

Search:

Google · Instagram · TikTok · Facebook · Domain Names · Trademark Database

Boxtunity Tip: Don’t order large quantities of branded materials until you’ve checked that you’re comfortable using the name.

02 — KNOW WHO YOU'RE SELLING TO

You don’t need everyone to like your products.

You need to understand who is most likely to buy them.

Imagine you’re selling jewelry.

Compare:

“I sell jewelry.”

with:

“I sell affordable, trendy jewelry for women who love changing accessories with their outfits.”

The second gives you a much clearer idea of what to photograph, what to post, what language to use and where to find customers.

Answer these five questions:

Who would most likely buy my products?

________________________________

Approximately how old are they?

________________________________

What styles do they like?

________________________________

Where do they spend time online?

________________________________

Why would they buy from me instead of someone else?

________________________________

You just started defining your customer.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. You’ll learn much more about your customers once you actually start selling.

03 — CHOOSE YOUR BRAND PERSONALITY

If your business were a person, what would it feel like?

Choose 3–5 words:

Fun · Bold · Elegant · Minimal · Playful · Luxurious · Cute · Modern · Colorful · Edgy · Natural · Youthful · Sophisticated · Romantic · Trendy

For example:

A Jewelry Brand

Elegant · Feminine · Modern

might look very different from:

Another Jewelry Brand

Bold · Colorful · Playful

They can sell similar products but create completely different brands.

04 — CHOOSE YOUR COLORS

Your colors help people recognize your business.

You don’t need ten.

Start with:

1 MAIN COLOR

The color most associated with your brand.

1 SECONDARY COLOR

A color that complements it.

1 ACCENT COLOR

Used sparingly for buttons, highlights or important details.

1 NEUTRAL

White, cream, beige, gray, black, etc.

So your basic palette might look like:

Main + Secondary + Accent + Neutral

Keep It Consistent

Try to use the same colors across your:

Logo · Packaging · Instagram · Website · Product Cards · Thank-You Cards · Promotional Graphics

Consistency makes even a very small business look more established.

05 — YOUR LOGO

Your logo doesn’t need to be complicated.

In fact, simple logos are often easier to use across different applications.

You’ll potentially need it on:

Stickers
Packaging
Thank-You Cards
Social Media
Website
Product Cards
Business Cards
Shipping Materials

Before using your logo, check:

✓ Can I read it when it’s small?
✓ Does it work on a white background?
✓ Does it work on a dark background?
✓ Do I have a version without the background?
✓ Do I have a high-quality copy?

Important Files to Keep

Try to maintain:

PNG — especially a transparent-background version
JPG — useful for everyday applications
SVG or vector file — useful for professional printing when available

Keep your original logo files somewhere safe.

06 — CHOOSE YOUR FONTS

Fonts are another part of your visual identity.

You don’t need many.

Keep it simple:

ONE HEADLINE FONT

ONE EASY-TO-READ FONT

That’s enough for most new businesses.

Use them consistently across your social posts, website, promotional materials and graphics.

07 — FIND YOUR BRAND VOICE

How does your business sound when it talks to customers?

Compare:

Playful

“Okay, this one is WAY too cute. 😍”

Elegant

“An effortless finishing touch for every occasion.”

Bold

“Your outfit called. It needs this.”

Same concept.

Completely different personality.

Your captions, product descriptions and customer messages should generally sound like they come from the same brand.

08 — CREATE YOUR BRAND BIO

Now let’s create the short description people will see when they discover your social account.

A simple formula:

WHAT YOU SELL + WHO IT’S FOR + WHY IT’S DIFFERENT + CTA

For example:

Trendy accessories made for everyday style ✨
Affordable pieces. New drops. Easy looks.
👇 Shop the latest collection

You don’t need a complicated company description.

Tell people quickly:

What do you sell?

Why should they care?

What should they do next?

09 — CREATE YOUR BRAND KIT

Now put everything in one place.

10 — KEEP EVERYTHING CONSISTENT

You don’t need to make everything identical.

You want it to feel like it came from the same business.

When someone sees your:

Instagram post → Packaging → Thank-you card → Website → Product

there should be a connection.

Same general colors.

Same logo.

Same personality.

Same style.

Same voice.

That’s how a business starts becoming a brand.
